  •   “Showcase your Workspace” Competitions Terms and Conditions:

    These are the general term and conditions for the competition.  Please also see the online voting terms and conditions.
    1.    No purchase necessary to enter the competition.
    2.    This competition is open to UK residents aged 18 years or over, with the exception of employees of the Promoter, their families, agents and anyone else connected with this promotion.
    3.    Entries must be received by 11.59pm on 31st March 2009. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any entries that are incomplete, illegible, corrupted or fail to reach the Promoter by the relevant closing date for any reason. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt. Entries via agents or third parties are invalid. Entries become the property of the Promoter and are not returned.
    4.    Only one entry per person. No entrant may win more than one prize.
    5.    To enter, take a photograph of your workspace together with a text description of what you like or don’t like about your workspace up to 100 words.  You must upload your entry on to the www.myworkingspace.co.uk website (the “Website”) using the “upload” form provided, and fill in your details via the online form including your name, address and email address. Photographs must be in .jpg form and no more than 2mb in size.
    6.    All entries must comply with the following: (a) don’t identify your employer in either the photograph or your text submission - be careful not to accidentally identify your employer by details in the photograph of your work space; (b) do check with your employer to see if you need their permission to submit your photograph to the Competition; (c) do make sure you own the copyright in the photograph you submit; (d) don’t take a photograph of your work space if any commercially sensitive or confidential information is on display on your desk, computer etc; (e) don’t reveal any personal information about yourself or any other person (including names, addresses or email addresses); (f) don’t submit photographs which include your work colleagues or any other person unless they have expressly given you permission to do so; (g) don’t say anything derogatory or offensive about your work colleagues or employer.   
    7.    You agree not to include in your entry any content which is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, threatening, offensive, harmful, or otherwise objectionable, or which advertises, promotes or offers for sale any goods or services; or uses inappropriate or offensive language. You shall not post content that contains viruses or that may damage the Promoter’s or other user’s computer.
    8.    All correctly completed entries will be displayed on the Website.  A judging panel will select a short list of the five best entries which will then be displayed on the Website for a period from 1st April 2009 to 8th April 2009 for the public to vote for the winning entry from the five short listed entries.  The winner will be the entry that receives the highest number of public votes by 11.59 pm on 8th April 2009.  Voting will be conducted in accordance with the Online Voting Terms and Conditions.
    9.    The prize for the winner is one place on the Work course run by The School of Life (www.theschooloflife.com) which should be booked by the winner directly through The School of Life by the 31 December 2009 and completed by 31 December 2010. The prize does not include transportation costs to and from The School of Life or food and drink expenses. The winner will also receive a selection of Penguin books of their choice worth up to the value of £100 and a signed copy of Alain de Botton's "The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work".
    10.    The four runners up will each receive a selection of Penguin books of their choice worth up to the value of £100 and a signed copy of Alain de Botton's "The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work".
    11.    Prizes are subject to availability. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Promoter reserves the right (a) to substitute alternative prizes of equivalent or greater value and (b) in exceptional circumstances to amend or foreclose the promotion without notice. No correspondence will be entered into.
    12.    The winner and runners up will be notified via email or post by 30th April 2009. The winner and runners up must claim their prize within 14 working days of the Promoter sending notification. If the prize is unclaimed after this time, it will lapse and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner selected in accordance with these rules.
    13.    By entering this competition each entrant confirms that his/her entry is their wholly-owned creation and to the extent that such entry makes use of any third party materials that these have been fully cleared unless they are no longer protected by copyright or other intellectual property rights.  Entrants will keep the Promoter harmless from any claims in relation to their entry that the entry infringes the personal or proprietary right of any other person.  By submitting an entry, each entrant (or their parent/guardian on their behalf) grants to the Promoter a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to edit, publish, translate, modify, adapt, make available and distribute the entry throughout the world in any media now known or hereafter invented. Each entrant (or their parent/guardian on their behalf) undertakes to complete any necessary documentation to formalise the licence. If you do not want to grant us these rights, please do not submit materials to us.
    14.    The Promoter will not moderate or vet and is not responsible for the competition entries posted on to the Website by entrants. Penguin retains the right to delete, move or otherwise alter the content in any way in our discretion and without notice if an entry does not comply with these terms and conditions.  If you find objectionable or offensive material on the Website please let us know as soon as possible by emailing reportabuse@penguin.co.uk.
    15.    To obtain details of the winner and runners up please email matt.clacher@uk.penguingroup.com stating the name of the competition in the subject heading 4 weeks after the closing date.
    16.    The Promoter will use any data submitted by entrants only for the purposes of running the competition, unless otherwise stated in the entry details. By entering this competition, all entrants consent to the use of their personal data by the Promoter for the purposes of the administration of this competition and any other purposes to which the entrant has consented.
    17.    The winner and runners up agree to take part in reasonable post event publicity and to the use of their names and photographs in such publicity.
    18.    By entering the competition each entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.
    19.    The Promoter is Penguin Books Limited, 80 Strand, London WC2R 0RL.
    20.    These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

    School of Life Competition – Online Voting Terms and Conditions

    1.    This online vote (“Vote”) is organised by Penguin Books Limited (“Promoter”).
    2.    By participating in the Vote, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
    3.    The Promoter does not charge participants to vote.
    4.    You may only cast one vote for each online entry.
    5.    To vote for an entry, click on the voting buttons on the website.
    6.    The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any vote if it has reasonable grounds to suspect that fraudulent voting has occurred or if it considers there has been any attempt to rig the voting.
    7.    The Vote will open at midday on 1st April 2009 and close at 11.59pm on 8th April 2009. Votes received outside the specified times will not be counted.
    8.    Voting times may change. The Promoter reserves the right to cancel or suspend voting at any time.
    9.    The Promoter, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any system, server, provider or otherwise which may result in any vote being lost or not properly registered or recorded.
    10.    These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
